Two events with national and international insights on modernizing Caltrain and Bay Area transit

Key decisions about Bay Area rail and transit service will be made in the coming months. Electrified Caltrain service is expected to come online in 2024.  Caltrain will start planning its electric service next month, and is rolling out out promotions and programs to regrow ridership.  

Across the region, plans for a more connected Bay Area transit network are in the works, along with planning to fund robust and well-connected service.

This month, two lunchtime web events provide great opportunities to learn about international and national models for convenient, well-connected, high-ridership rail and transit system.

August 10, 1pm – Lessons from Switzerland for Bay Area and US Public Transit (Zoom Webinar)

Join Seamless Bay Area for a panel of Bay Area transit leaders who traveled to Switzerland taking part in a study tour. Learn key insights about Switzerland’s internationally-renowned transit system – with one of the highest ridership rates in the world – and how they operate such an effective and integrated transit network in a complex environment with many transit agencies at multiple levels of government involvement at the federal, state, and local levels.

The webinar is from 1-2 PM (PDT) on August 10th with panelists from BART, WETA, MTC, SPUR, and Seamless Bay Area.

August 23, 1pm – Beyond Commuter Rail: Transforming Caltrain and Bay Area rail after the pandemic (Zoom Webinar)

As Caltrain works on its schedule for electric service next year and plans to regrow ridership, come learn from experts about opportunities to transform and modernize Caltrain and Bay Area rail, in the context of history, and trends around the country and the world.
