Make a Friend (on transit) Day

Hundreds of transit riders had a chance to connect with new friends on February 11 for Make a Friend (on transit) Day. About 40 volunteers plus teams from transit agencies were at over a dozen transit hubs across the counties of San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda, and Contra Costa and passed out nametags to transit riders inviting them into a region-wide icebreaker.

People chatted about everything from Bad Bunny to 3D printing to hobbits to spots, and the event got written up in KALWContra Costa Herald, and Antioch Herald. The day capped off with get-togethers at STV in SF (where we played the board game North Berkeley BART), Victory Point Cafe, Next Level Board Game Cafe, Boba & More, Oakland Library’s Fruitvale Branch.

Special thanks to Tri Delta Transit who activated the Antioch station, LAVTA Wheels who activated at Dublin/Pleasanton BART, and County Connection who joined us at Concord BART – in addition to helping get the word out ahead of time and to SF Bay Ferry, BART, and Caltrain who for promoting it on social media, too.

And a gigantic thank you to Transbay Coalition volunteer Mari Hsu, without whom the day would not have happened.

It was fun day of friendship, transit, and fun!
